Future of staffing and its impact in 2020 (including the time of Covid19)

Unprecedented suddenness, unimaginable scope and size. As aptly as this describes the COVID19 challenge, I will apply my favorite mantra in response – “This too shall pass”.

Alongside this optimism, there is also a valid question we need to ask ourselves. How can we firefight for today, prepare for tomorrow, and strategize for the day after tomorrow?

The immediate need - and a future lesson - is to protect the interests of the contract and gig workers. Contract workers in India today comprise more than a third of India’s overall workforce – and close to half in the top industrial organizations. The minimum fair ask is to draw contracts that balance legal compliance, social responsibility and commercial acumen. Doing so will be a win-all situation for people and business.

The post COVID19 scenario will see a refreshing new face of remote work. We are learning great lessons in managing people, infrastructure and security requirements – and I look forward to a shared compilation of best practices on this aspect of work.

I am also sure that we will have newer perspectives on talent acquisition strategies. Real-time and just-in-time hiring, early investment in resources, smart and technology-enabled hiring and on-boarding, building influencer communities of internal rock stars, and external expert passive candidates…the blending of possibilities are endless!

The COVID19 shroud will lift and we will emerge better prepared to accelerate in the fast lane of the future-ready workforce. Till then, stay safe and plan smart!
